Intensive Prayer Unit The Navajo word Hogan literally means "a holy home". It is a six or eight-sided structure made with mud and logs. A dirt floor and a woodstove are traditional. A few years ago, some Navajos built a Hogan on the back lot of St. Mary Mission. It is used for morning prayer and Mass each day except Sunday when services are held in the three larger churches.
